STUDENT ENROLLMENT INFORMATION
Students are referred for placement in a non-public school by the IEP team of the district. All students who are enrolled at Live Oak Canyon School have an active IEP documenting the need for nonpublic school placement.
Districts contact the site principal to discuss placement and make arrangements for transportation as needed. Records related to the student’s needs are released to the school with permission of the parent/guardian. The district issues an individual service contract covering the services to be provided. Both the Individual and the Master Contract comply with Education Code regarding timelines and content.
Live Oak Canyon School is certified by the California Department of Education to provide services to students meeting the eligibility criteria for learning disabled and emotionally disturbed, autism, mental retardation, and other health impairments. Live Oak Canyon School provides educational services for boys and girls in Grade levels K–12.
Students may also enter the school on a thirty-day Administrative Placement from the district. During this period, the district conducts assessment and an IEP meeting is held to develop goals and determine if these goals can be best met in a non-public school placement. If placement is made, a contract with the district is developed.
Live Oak Canyon School enrolls students residing in group home settings, as well as community students. Students receive orientation to the program when enrolled and are monitored and assisted by staff to assure successful placement. If any concerns arise, the district is contacted to request a meeting of the IEP team to discuss such concerns.
Parents should contact their district to discuss all educational decisions regarding their child. Educational placement is the end result of a process that involves the participation of many.
